Profile: Commercial property service provider

Requirement: Redefine the service portfolio of a division of a £65m UK company. Develop a market strategy to target an emerging segment of the commercial property services market. Profile a new service portfolio and develop a range of targeted marketing initiatives to take the service portfolio to market.

Result: ConnOptix worked with the existing management team to deploy Phases I and II of the Business Regeneration Process during a 4 month period. The resulting market strategy, portfolio definition and marketing investment plan was accepted by the Group Managing Directorate, and ConnOptix and its partners are currently supporting the ongoing implementation of the plan.

Requirement: Evaluate the broad service portfolio of the business, with a view to rationalising the portfolio, re-defining the market messaging, seeking higher margin service opportunities and identifying opportunities to develop unique competences.

Result: ConnOptix delivered a detailed Market Strategy review, identifying a number of scenarios which could lead to higher margin, differentiated service provision. The review recommended an exit strategy for one loss-making service/market combination, and a re-alignment of resources to higher margin opportunities. We continue to work with this client on the implementation of a number of our recommendations.

Profile: Telecoms connectivity consulting services to the built environment.

Requirement: Assess the core competences of 2 major PLCs in a number of market sectors. Generate new product & market ideas which make use of complementary skills. Prioritise service introductions, identify target markets and define a tactical plan of action, combining services from ColoAdvisors with those of the PLCs.

Result: ConnOptix and the ColoAdvisors team used components of the Business Regeneration Process to develop a business case proposing a partnership/joint venture with a leading telecom service provider. Using the ConnOptix framework as a new venture proposition tool, the ColoAdvisors team presented a persuasive partnering argument to the telecom provider, and won substantial R&D funding for the venture.

The change in strategic approach is as a result of changing economic conditions, and the perceived need to become more focused on 'receptive market sub-segments'. In a series of one-on-one coaching sessions with senior managers, ConnOptix used various components of the Business Regeneration process to critique the existing approach to market, and highlight areas for Business expansion. 3 strategic marketing scenarios were developed as inputs to the ongoing strategic assessment of the business.
